Before you actually start your exploration of this island, be sure to pay a visit to the excellent Museo de la Isla de Cozumel. With many exhibits offering an insight into the island's layout, native wildlife, conservation, mangroves, geology, history and ancient Mayan culture, the museum also appeals to scuba divers, boasting useful information about the many surrounding coral reefs. Signs around the Cozumel Museum are shown clearly in both English and Spanish, making it easy to understand. A coffee shop is located on site, should you require refreshments.

The San Miguel Pax Music Museum is always of particular interest to musicians staying in Cozumel and boasts a staggering collection of almost 1,000 different musical instruments from around the world. The traditional Mayan flutes and classical Mexican guitars are always firm favourites. A gift shop completes the main museum attractions and sells many music-related souvenirs, along with some local arts and crafts.

Cozumel Museums: Punta Celerain Faro / Navigational Museum (Punta Celerain Lighthouse) - Parque Punta Sur, Cozumel, 77600, Mexico, MX
The Punta Celerain Faro lighthouse stands between both the southern and eastern coastal highways and is home to a notable navigational museum. Sited within the Parque Punta Sur, this attraction contains a number of interesting displays, although the views across Cozumel's southern tip are perhaps the highlight. It is possible to climb the narrow, winding stairs to the top of the lighthouse for the best scenery. Nearby, a rugged beach is a good place for a stroll.
